Mobility Air Transport
A Hassles-Free Way to Fly
I have been in touch with a new
company starting out with limited services for 2008. The
company is Mobility Air Transport (www.iflymat.org)
and I, for one am quite excited about it! Marvin and I have
not flown since a trip for the PCBA to Las Vegas, NV to do
the SHOT show. Marvin’s wheelchair and equipment was damaged
and some destroyed. It took longer that it was to take from
Nevada to Pittsburgh, PA. Needless to say Marvin has refused
to fly anywhere! Now maybe we can return to flying,
especially now with the GAS prices!
I first learned of MAT in early
March and had a few emails back and forth with founder Ken
Wilson. Ken has been interested in aviation since he was a
child. He worked in airports for a number of years as an
attendant fueling planes to a flight attendant moving
disabled passengers in isle chairs, to becoming a pilot
himself.
Ken says he has several friends who
have disabilities and each have different travel needs.
Knowing this plus his love of flying, he had several
questions about how someone in a power wheelchair would be
able to continue to travel. A vision started to form of
helping people with disabilities to fly. He started to check
into anything that is available for the disabled and found
nothing.
Mobility Air Transport will be able
to fly from and to any US airports, plus Canada, Mexico and
the Caribbean. Airfares will be comparative to the bigger
airlines (pricing information can be found at
www.iflymat.org/pricing )
