PCBA:

I would like to respond to the question from Marc Rohner in the Fall 07, Volume 10 of “The Good News”. Marc had asked about   waterproof boots with zippers so he could get his prosthetic leg in. I was thinking that he could either cut the side of the tongue of the boot or get a regular zipper installed and use the SealSkinz socks or other waterproof socks to protect the prosthetics.

I feel the need to assist an organization that assists others in such a way.  Nearly 2.5 years ago I was involved in a "single car hydroplaning" accident and fortunately I was the sole occupant (human). My dog suffered a broken back and was "put down."  After a 2.5 month hospital visit I was "ambulanced" home to begin my recovery.  With the inability to walk, etc. my first conscious thought was: Pulling a bow would be very beneficial to me.  I don't know why LORD GOD let that enter my brain.  I was no archer; the one and only time I harvested an animal was when I took a turkey with a .243 Winchester.  For my birthday this year, my mother and I purchased a 60# Barta (Martin) Bow.  Now I’m walking without so much as a cane.  I read of your organization in the Feb/Mar issue of Traditional Bowhunter in the Remembering Biff article.  I wish to become a member and help as much as I can.  Calvin Wright, Virginia

Just a word of "thanks" for all the good information on the antelope hunt in Gillette, Wyoming. We really had a good time and my partner and I were successful hunters.  I also shot a 6 point buck with my bow. Brad Musser, Pennsylvania

In the spring 2007 issue of “The Good News” there was information on "California Land for PCBA Members”. It said that a Glenn Elliott of Davis, CA has offered any PCBA members the opportunity to hunt his property for turkeys. I have called the number listed have found it is no longer in service. I imagine it may have been a cell number
that may have changed for this person. Do you have another contact number or address for this individual? I would like to get in touch with this person and do some bowhunting for turkey. I have been trying to find some property to hunt turkeys for decades.

 Thanks, Paul Babiak, Nevada

Editor Note:  Sorry that is one thing that happens to us from time to time. We get an offer from someone months ahead of the newsletter publication and when we put it in, something like phone numbers have changed and they haven’t contacted us with the change. I do have an address for Glenn and will drop him a note to see if the offer is still available and get back to you all on his new contact information. We are so sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.

Dear PCBA,

I am doing cost research and assistive technology research for a young man who is a bilateral upper arm amputee.  He is 17 years old and has expressed an interest in hunting; bow and/or gun.  I am writing to ask for your hunting recommendations for this young man.

He has a Right (dominant) below the elbow, mid -humerus amputation and a left shoulder
disarticulation.  He uses a myoelectric on the right arm and has not been fitted for the myoelectric on the left yet.
I hope that you can help me in assisting this gentleman.  Thank you!  Debra J. Bowman, RN, MS, CLCP, MSCC D & S LifeCare Consultants, Inc.   Oklahoma

In comment to Darrell Noble's "The Tale of the Tape" article,

I, too, had a similar experience with the crossbow rule and rude treatment from a man at Pope & Young.  There is an alternative to record your buck and that is Safari Club International.  They do allow and welcome crossbow taken animals.  You can look them up on the internet and click on a link to find a scorer in your area and you can also see what the minimum score has to be.  Their method of scoring may be slightly different.  Good luck!

In response to the "Seventh Annual PCBA Wyoming Antelope Hunt"

I am from Wyoming and am interested in how much is needed for a Wyoming registrant.  I attended the 2007 Wednesday afternoon and evening registering, sighting in and dinner and was very impressed. Those folks in Gillette really got it together.

I would also like to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, and THANK YOU to all the people that help to get “The Good News” newsletter published each quarter.  I look forward to every issue and read it two or three times.  A big thanks to all who write in with stores, questions and comments.  Great Job!  But don't be so modest; let’s call it “The Great News!”

Something else I wanted to let you all know is, in Wyoming you DO NOT have to have a special permit to use a cocking aid.  This rule was changed just this past hunting season.  They do not say anything about cocking devices in their hunting regulation, but they are allowed. I know because I helped to get the bill passed in our legislature.  Our argument was that they were limiting the people who could hunt because of the physical strength required to cock a crossbow by hand, thus leaving out the young, aging and slightly injured.  A cocking aid is more cumbersome and slower than cocking by hand and therefore has no advantage.  We actually had a crossbow to show them so they could see how difficult it is (may also cause back & shoulder injures) to cock by hand.

Thanks for everything PCBA.  Mark Pixley, Wyoming      mark@actaccess.net
