Biography Sheet

Dr. John Robert Brod was born March 12, 1954 at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital to William and Betty Brod of Boling, Texas.  The son of a career military father, he traveled the world with his parents living in Guam, Japan, Puerto Rico, and numerous duty stations in the USA. 

Introduced at the early age of 5 to the sport of hunting by his father and grandfather, Dr. Brod grew up with the values and principles of ethical sportsmanship as one of his principle character traits.  Hunting and fishing became a major part of his life at this early age. 

After a short stint in college and marrying his lovely wife, Teresa, of 34 years, John joined the Navy in January 1974 where he too traveled the world again and enjoyed raising two boys and a girl.  During his time in the service, John took a “hands on” approach to working with those with physical challenges and from May 1980 – March 1983 held the position of “Facilities Coordinator” for the Northern Florida Special Olympics where over 5,000 contestants were hosted for competions each year. 

Dr. Brod volunteered as an on-line chat room host for Mark Sports community on the AOL website.  During this time he became involved with another nationally known organization that fulfilled wishes of terminally ill or physically challenged individuals as the “National Public Relations Manager” 

Dr. Brod and family moved to Indiana in January 1992 and currently reside in Greene County, Indiana.  Upon retirement from the military service after 22 years, Dr. Brod was injured in a car accident and suffered spinal cord damage with the ultimate fusing of his C5-C6 vertebrate.  With successful surgery, Dr. Brod returned to the work force with employment at Vincennes University, Business and Industry Department where he has remained for the past seven years.
